DEAD HEAT - DEV LOG II: Title

II. Title
We have the theme and the engine (PbtA), but now we need the most important thing - a catchy title. I write the game in Polish for the jam, but still I think and title stuff with English in mind. I researched some car lingo, best to relate with feelings too. Nothing there. Tom Waits' wordplay from Bad As Me comes to mind... skid in the rain, shifting gears, grinding gears... maybe something derived from a movie title? Variation on Fast & Furious is as much fitting as it is meh. Luckily the web is full of lists with idioms on any given topic.

I chose DEAD HEAT - maybe not too feelings related, but hot and dramatic and - most important - short, catchy, and great for a logo. Google fonts serves a neat racing font racing sans one, put some racing checkers on it, cut with few dynamic lines and there you have it. Then, the first signature move comes up - when two rivals dash right next to each other and their eyes meet...

II. Tytuł
Mamy temat i silnik, ale trzeba oczywiście najważniejszą rzecz rozpracować - chwytliwy tytuł. Choć grę na jam piszę po polsku, to lubię myśleć i tytułować po angielsku. Szukałem jakiegoś żargonu samochodowego, który jeszcze by się kojarzył z uczuciami. Nie ma łatwo. Skojarzyły mi się gry słowne Toma Waitsa z Bad as Me...skid in the rain, shifting gears, grinding gears... może tytuł jakiegoś filmu? Wariacja na temat Fast & Furious jest tyle odpowiednia co bez polotu... Internet na szczęście pełen jest list z idiomami na zadany temat.

Padło na DEAD HEAT - może nie kojarzy się przesadnie z uczuciami i relacjami, ale jest gorące i dramatyczne, a przede wszystkim krótkie, chwytliwe i idealnie nadaje się na logotyp. Google fonts służy świetnym wyścigowym fontem racing sans one, dodajemy charakterystyczną wyścigom szachownicę, kilka dynamicznych przecięć i gotowe. Od razu nasuwa się myśl na pierwszy i niezwykle ważny ruch - kiedy rywale pędzą jeden obok drugiego i spoglądają sobie w oczy...
